NORTHEAST FAIR RESTROOMS

UNBUILT
The fairgrounds operated by a local volunteer fire department were in need of development to better accommodate the popular, regional fair.   CAM Architects provided master planning services as the initial phase of the project.  The plan designated walking paths, vendor areas, existing fire station/exhibit building, and restrooms. The second phase of the project involved designing permanent structures to house essential restrooms. The design for the modest 800 square feet restrooms used durable materials and a straightforward structural system that conceivably would allow volunteers to construct the buildings.  The design incorporated natural ventilation with a low maintenance configuration.  Although utilitarian in nature, the form and elements of the building created an expressive structure that offered a shady respite while attendees queued up or waited for others.  The extended roof was supported by angled steel columns resting on rock bases claimed from the site.  This structural element provided a place for fairgoers to sit while waiting at the single meeting area near the common restroom exit.
