The owners of An American Four Square residence that had undergone a 15-year-old renovation by C. Allen Mullins Architect decided to update and reconfigure the kitchen, dining, and family room. While it is important to maintain the mostly intact exterior more flexibility existed for interior proposals. Some original detailing existed and the clients desired to have compatible detailing. Reconfiguring the room locations gave greater functionality to the plan and accommodated the family’s living style. The proposal includes a sensitive gesture to the period details of the house with a fresh approach to the first floor living spaces. The design solution maintains and enhances the incorporation of daylight and a connection to the outdoors.
